Beck Live on KCRW – “Blue Moon”

Written by

Beck’s new album has been a KCRW favorite all year and we had a special opportunity to hear the tracks live in a private taping for Morning Becomes Eclectic.

Since his Coachella set was geared more towards a dance party, the band had only played these gorgeously melancholic new tracks live a few times before.

When I first started working at the station, I learned about Beck’s long history at KCRW – how the LA native sent Music Director Chris Douridas a cassette tape with his music. KCRW started spinning “Loser” in the summer of 1993 and Beck’s live debut on MBE (with a piece of rope as his guitar strap), triggered a record label bidding war.

As fans, it’s been incredible to be along for the ride. He is a chameleon who can master almost any style and never disappoints. Certainly not on “Morning Phase”.

We only aired an edited version of this epic concert — which included some unexpected covers and songs from throughout his catalogue — so I HIGHLY recommend watching the FULL session.
