This says series tickets are already available/on sale, but when I tried to purchase them on the LA Phil site, it doesn’t give an opportunity for me to put in my KCRW member # to get the 20% discount. Does the 20% discount only apply to the single-day tickets that are going on sale in May?

  • Rachel said:

Hi Dawn, you are correct. The KCRW discount doesn’t kick in until May. I’ve updated the blog above to reflect that.

I wish I was as enthusiastic about this year’s line-up as you are. Truth be told, it is a rehash of acts that have all been there before. Royksopp, Jimmy Cliff, Devendra Banhart, Glen Hansard, and Andrew Bird have all been featured previously on the Bowl stage as part of the World Music Festival. For Janelle Monae, this will be her third appearance. Can you say boring?

More importantly, where is the World in the World Music Festival? Monae, Bird, and Sam Beam are all Americans. For all practical purposes, so is Banhart. Nothing in Glen Hansard’s music differentiates him from from any number of American singer-songwriters. Reggae is so mainstream, it hardly qualifies as world music any longer, and EDM (Royksopp and Robyn) is EDM regardless of country of origin. To call this line-up a World Music Festival makes a mockery of the term.

I used to think that the Hollywood Bowl respected it’s audience. Not so much anymore. The programming seems to be less about world music, and its fans, and more about showcasing the favorites of KCRW personalities.

” Five hundred wristbands will be distributed, starting at 8:00 AM.” Does anyone know what the wristbands are for? Glen Hansard and Iron and Wine are my top two favorite artists… the show is beyond a dream. I really just want to get a single ticket as close as possible and the pool circle seems like a daunting task. Any tips on buying tickets? This is my first Hollywood Bowl experience.
