Gesaffelstein: Artist You Should Know

Written by

Proof of the power of mentorship…French DJ/Producer Gesaffelstein (nee Mike Levy) has gone from relative obscurity to remixing Depeche Mode to producing tracks on Kanye West’s “YEEZUS” to releasing one of the boldest electronic music debuts of the decade.

Ushered into production via The Hacker and fostered by Tiga and Brodinski, Levy’s sound almost perfectly splits the difference between each of their signature sounds resulting in a crisp industrial electro machine funk.

This is the logical extension and evolution of the work recently collected by Trevor Jackson on his Metal Dance compilations. Moody, cold work, it still pulses with the intensity of a tiny bright red heart beating deep beneath layers of circuitry and steel.

Gesaffelstein’s debut LP, Aleph is an alternate reality Wax Trax sequel to Daft Punk’s “Human After All”. One listen to “Destinations” and I was hooked. One listen to “Hate or Glory” and I was convinced.
