Ten years ago this never would have happened. That’s what Primal Scream guitarist Andrew Innes told me as he walked out of the studio after the band’s triumphant Morning Becomes Eclectic debut. 9am is an early call time for any band which might explain why, in a 30-year career, this was the first time they’d played live on KCRW.

Personally, I was late to the game on this band. For a really long time I thought they were a metal band based on their name so I never pursued their music. But when their single “Country Girl” came out in 2006, I became a big fan and my backwards discovery began.

Their new album “More Light”, produced by David Holmes, is excellent, particularly the sunny single “It’s Alright, It’s Okay”.

They treated us to other choice cuts like “Goodbye Johnny” and “River Of Pain” as well as classic tracks like “Rocks”, that made the longtime fans packed into the studio squeal with delight.

Constant reinvention has kept these Scottish rockers going and it was and a real treat to have them here.
