Four Songs You Should Listen to Right Now

Written by

We said goodbye to summer just a couple of days ago and, personally, I’m sad to see it go. But it looks to be an incredible Fall, musically speaking.

Brett Dennen – “Wild Child”

Our favorite folkie Brett Dennen is back with love in his heart, super positive vibes and more catchy songs. After touring behind his last album, he retreated to Northern California to begin work on“Smoke & Mirrors”, which will be out on October 20.

Jungle – “The Heat”

Jungle‘s 4-song EP, set for release October 21, has been getting spins across a bunch of our music shows all summer long, but “The Heat” is emerging as the station favorite. With it’s smooth funky groove, it’s easy to see why. Jungle is a London-based duo, but aside from that, little is known about the artist. Something I’m sure will change soon.

Phantogram – “Black Out Days”

I heard through the grapevine a few months ago that Phantogram was hard at work on a new album here in LA. I secretly hoped that would mean KCRW (and its dedicated music staff) would get an early listen to some of the tunes, but they’ve been holding them close.

They finally released the first single “Black Out Days” last week and played a sold out show at the Hollywood Bowl, opening for M83, this weekend. The duo of Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel have jumped from an indie to a major label and seem destined for stardom with this one.

Chromeo – “Over Your Shoulder”

Oh Chromeo. With your beats that make me dance and your lyrics that make me laugh (often sexually charged). They call themselves “kings of lovers’ funk” and that is pretty much a perfect description.

Over Your Shoulder” is aimed at women with self confidence issues, particularly about their appearance. But Dave 1 and P-Thugg make sure the ladies know they like you just the way you are.
