See Dueling Guitarists Rodrigo Y Gabriela At the Hollywood Bowl This Sunday

Written by

I will never forget the first time I saw Rodrigo Y Gabriela.  I had heard a couple of albums and was intrigued by their love for heavy metal, their instrumental guitar pieces, and the fact that this duo from Mexico really got their start on the streets of Dublin.

That night at the Gibson, as part of a benefit show for KCRW, the electricity and the power of these two artists playing together only on acoustic guitars was something I’ve never experienced and I think the audience felt the same way.

To this day, we all still talk about that performance.

I can’t even imagine how powerful it will be to see them on the stage at the Bowl.

Opening for Rodrigo Y Gabriela are two groups I also love.  I will always have a special place in my heart for Devotchka.  Much like Rod y Gab, their music intrigued and hooked me right out of the gate.

The melancholy, the sadness, the intensity, the hope were a combination that inspired me.

I was fortunate enough to music supervise the film “Little Miss Sunshine” and the directors and I fell in love with the sound, so much so that we decided to have them score the whole film.  It was something the band had never done and it informed so much of how we thought about the film.  I’ve seen them live many times and again, Devotcka + The Hollywood Bowl will be a perfect combination.

The opening band on Sunday is playing a home game.  It is Lord Huron from right here in Los Angeles.  Their 2012 debut, “Lonesome Dreams”, has been a recurring part of my weekend playlists and was one of my favorite albums last year.

I’m thrilled to be hosting the show on Sunday night and look forward to seeing you there!
