The front office of KCRW is staffed by a revolving door of volunteers answering phones and helping out in a variety of ways. Some of them go on to become DJs (Travis Holcombe! Raul Campos!) so it’s safe to say their music  tastes can be trusted.

Last week, Michael Lee send me a link to a band called Splashh, describing their debut “Comfort” as a “very sun drenched sound that’s perfect for summer”.

And what do ya know, he was right!  Especially the dreamy “Sun Kissed Bliss”. The guitar part at the beginning made my hair stand on end, the way great songs do, before the vocals kick in at :30 second mark. It also made me want to run out the door and hit the beach!

The track is a bonus from their debut and available for a limited time as a download HERE.

The rest of the album is a fuzzy throwback to 90’s grunge, but decidedly dreamier. Kind of like a male version of Best Coast combined with a poppier version of Wavves.

The project is from Kiwi Sasha Carlson (guitar/singer) and Aussie Toto Vivian, who crafted their shoe-gazy poppy songs during a summer spent in Byron Bay.  “Comfort” is out now in the U.S. via Brooklyn indie Kanine Records.

Here’s another taste:
