I’ve been a huge fan of Washed Out since his early self-released material.

Now, with his second full length on Sub Pop, he’s clearly pushing the boundaries of his sound a bit. His last release was a sexy (check out the album cover) album of songs that still fit in the “chillwave” genre he helped popularize. However, his new single is super dreamy and has a psychedelic buzz to it that I find hypnotic and enchanting.

The Georgia-based musician named his new album “Paracosm”, which is a phenomenon where “people create detailed imaginary worlds”. And with this sense of exploration, came an active effort to expand his sonic palette using more than 50 different instruments. (He also has much longer hair in his new press photo — strange that I notice these things, but I do).

Last night, DJ Raul Campos played it between Camera Obscura’s “This is Love” and “I’m Waiting Here”, the new David Lynch track featuring Lykke Li on vocals and it was just perfect.

The album will be out on August 13 and I’m really looking forward to it!
