It’s no secret that we love this Australian band. With two excellent albums under their belt, they continue to impress us with a live performance that puts everything we love on full display. Their dreamy, psychedelic rock stylings were meant to be played live. They simply killed it!

A lot of the songs for their sophomore album started while they were touring behind their debut but frontman Kevin Parker is quick to say that songs can come any time “it’s like a flash of an idea”. He talks about the “cosmic crunch” that a producer/engineer like Dave Fridmann (who’s also worked with MGMT, The Flaming Lips) can add. He can turn “a complete soup of sounds, a potential mud swamp of psychedelic noises”  into a pleasant, rhythmic sounding song.

I’d never heard Kevin talk about his process so it was a real treat.

The full session is worth watching in the archives!

Rachel, I really enjoy your writing. You, also, do a great job during on air pledge drives! Fun to listen to you and Chris Douridas on air!! I have loved KCRW since the ’80s.
