The first time I saw Har Mar Superstar (aka Sean Tillmann) was at a street fair in Silver Lake many years ago. He had a pretty soulful voice but, let’s be honest, it was all about the performance. He was shirtless (and I believe pantless) running through the crowd with the mic and engaging everyone. He seemed fearless and joyous – and the crowd ate it up.

Lately I’ve been seeing him out and about in LA quite a bit and then I got his new album in the mail. I was excited and MAN did it deliver!

This song (available as a download) is just one of the standouts. I’d call the album a guilty pleasure but I don’t feel guilty at all. It’s just packed full of hooks.

Bye Bye 17” will be released April 23 and he’ll be playing alongside The Virgins here in LA at the Bootleg bar this Thursday, March 21. The album was recorded in NYC with Jim Eno from Spoon as co-producer. You can hear the influence of his favorite soul singers Otis Redding and Sam Cooke.
