Bibio is Back — New Track ‘À tout à l’heure’

It’s been a couple of years since we last heard from Stephen Wilkinson, aka Bibio. His last album “Mind Bokeh” was a masterpiece of headphone music.

He’s back with a new single off his forthcoming, “Silver Wilkinson” album called  ‘À tout à l’heure’ which further exemplifies Bibio’s extraordinary ability to merge the acoustic and electronic to come up with something completely unique and moving and true.

French for “see you later,” ‘À tout à l’heure’  is a funny, almost childlike way of returning, the way little kids say “hello” when leaving or call all old people “grandpa.” Bibio’s music has always felt immediate and nostalgic simutaneously. Like watching animated sections of old episodes of Sesame Street I hadn’t seen before. The way the films have degraded slightly to a faded yellow and the faint warbling of the music as children run across the arch of a rainbow that turns and reveals itself to a be a giant number 3 sitting on a grassy hill.

Interestingly enough, that particularly pastoral quality is something Wilkinson accidentally/purposefully sought out this time when recording. Describing his process on his Facebook page, he wrote, “The recording of ‘À tout à l’heure’ started out in my garden on a gorgeous sunny day when it felt morally wrong to be hidden away indoors. I still had the urge to make music so I limited myself to a few bits of gear and set up in my garden.”

Can’t wait to hear the rest of “Silver Wilkinson” in May.
