DJ Day: Local Artist We Love

Written by

Street music knocks like pavements and machinery, country music lopes and jangles like a wagon.

Hailing from Palm Springs, DJ Day (Damien Beebe) crafts laidback, desert breeze post-millenial lounge music that glimmers like the desert sun reflecting off elegant pools.

Executive Produced by Thes One (of LA’s People Under the Stairs,) DJ Day’s new record bumps like old school hip-hop, but has a sun baked vibe that feels like 70s AM Gold. At the risk of creating too dramatic (and perhaps obvious) a contrast, it’s as if where DJ Shadow produces sounds that lurk with the menace and dread of San Francisco’s darkest Zodiac nights. Day produces a sounds that groove like a shiny yellow ’76 Chevy Malibu cruising past a dune buggy rental place mid-afternoon on the way into Palm Springs. It’s all in the coda at the 2:46 mark of “Land of 1000 Chances.”

Day – Land Of 1000 Chances by DJDay

It’s a super vibey and totally pleasant listening experience. He’s been getting love from many of KCRWs DJs and recently our own Jeremy Sole DJ’ed at Day’s record release party at the Ace Hotel.

You can bask in the glow of Day’s full length album Land of 1000 Chances as it’s released today.
