Cover Me Monday: Living Sisters and Tashaki Miyaki

Written by

Let’s start the week with some lovely LA ladies taking on other people’s songs.

First, The Living Sisters is a super group of fantastically talented local singers – Inara George (The Bird and the Bee), Becky Stark (Lavender Diamond), Eleni Mandell, and newest ‘sister’ Alex Lilly — and they seem to be having a blast taking on Funkadelic’s “Can You Get to That, off their new EP “Run for Cover”.

They also take on Patsy Cline, Doris Day and Dolly Parton on the album, out now on Vangaurd Records.

Justin Gage, the man behind the excellent Aquarium Drunkard blog, got dream pop duo Tashaki Miyaki to give their ethereal, haunting take on The Flamingos’ classic “I Only Have Eyes for You”.  I just love the sound of drummer/vocalist Lucy Miyaki’s voice on this.

Stream “I Only Have Eyes for You”:

Hear another cover — of The Replacements “Unsatisfied”back at AD. The band plays on February 27 at the Bootleg Bar and below is one of their originals.

Enjoy and happy Monday!
