Larry Hirshowitz has been shooting photos of artists performing on Morning Becomes Eclectic for over 13 years. His South African accent and cheerful personality instantly put all of his “subjects” – often some of the biggest names in music — at ease, and he has been able to capture some incredible moments.  His photos line the walls of KCRW’s basement studios, but we decided it was time to bring them above ground and share them with the world in a series of pop-up galleries, the first of which is happening THIS Friday, February 22 at Atwater Crossing.

It’s a free event and we’ll even be offering a framed photo of Adele to one lucky winner in a raffle that evening. The photo is below and I asked Larry to tell us the story behind it. He took it on Adele’s third visit to the station, for her album “21”.

“I knew that she already had a huge album, “19”, but I didn’t realize the new one was even bigger. I didn’t realize what a huge star she was until months later. She let me get really close in the studio during soundcheck. I had a long lens, but I was only a couple feet away.  She just seemed so relaxed, so professional and very sweet. She’s got a great sense of humor and was joking around with her bandmates.”
