Naturally, when KCRW was looking to commission someone to do a Valentine’s Day mix they knew exactly who to turn to.
And when that person said no and they exhausted a few other options, they came to me. Naturally.
This playlist could’ve easily have consisted of assorted Marvin Gaye and Barry White cuts or Al Green’s entire “I’m Still In Love With You“ album but that would feel like cheating; and if there’s one thing Valentine’s Day is definitely not about, it’s cheating.
On this mix, you’ll find jams from V-Day cornerstones like Marvin, Serge Gainsbourg and Barry White alongside modern-day masters of seduction like R. Kelly and Nathaniel Merriweather.
Think of it as Spanish Fly if Spanish Fly came in an audiobook format instead of one of those little shiny silver wrappers you get at the gas station.
