It only happens a few times a year. An artist plays live in our studios and the phones in the front office start ringing off the hook as soon as the clock strikes noon. Almost always it’s an up and coming artist – which says so much about our fans and listeners – and last Friday, it was Lianne La Havas.
The minute you see her, it’s clear she has something special. Smiling sweetly with loads of charm, British wit, and the kind of confidence that you can’t fake. A knowing that she is following her destiny.
Lianne has one of the most unique musical voices I’ve heard this year. She plays mostly soulful pop with a lot of pizzaz ,but she also rocks out on the guitar, wearing it high on her chest.
The UK singer recorded most of her new album in LA and had a life-changing experience at one of the shows here when Stevie Wonder showed up in the audience. She had actually finished the album that day – if that’s not a good omen, I don’t know what is!
Since her performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic and a sold out show at the Roxy, the LA Times has been singing her praises and the buzz just keeps on growing.
If you missed it, check out the full session in the archives as you’re sure to be hearing more and more about this promising young artist, who we’ve been playing for almost a year now!
