Allah-Las by Brian Lowe

By the time the Allah Las entered our studios for a live session, we had already been spinning their debut album steadily for many months, so it was fitting that they decided to throw two new, unreleased songs into the mix – including one which they named on the spot!

The Venice Beach-based band inhabits many of the things I love about Southern California – both in their sound (60’s-style pop with touches of psychedelia) and in their vibe (groovy beachy cool). Retro-sounding music that is easy to succumb to, especially when they play it live, building on each other and creating a wave of sound that you want to keep riding. Yes, they are surfers, as you would expect from a bunch of beach dwellers and it’s their laidback approach that is part of the appeal.

The full set will air on KCRW TOMORROW Wednesday, November 21 and you can hear it on demand in the archives here after it airs.

Also, the band is about to head out on their European tour. Check out the dates here and tell all your friends!
