I am not a big indie rock fan in general but every now and then a band pops up that speaks directly to me — just to remind me about how meaningless genres and boxes are. Good music is good music, regardless of the form in which it is being delivered.
Here comes Balthazar a Belgium rock band who I became familiar with this summer …

I dunno if you’re like me, but when it comes to chills and thrills, I’m old school. I can’t really stand the modern “torture porn” brand of horror. Gratuitous gore although shocking, is not particularly scary, it’s just kind of gross, and ultimately laughable.
Sure, there’s a lot to be said for the immediate shock of something brutal and nasty, but it doesn’t make a lasting …

I don’t remember what movie it is, but the sleazy protagonist says something along the lines of, “I keep getting older, and they just keep getting younger.”
LA’s currently teeming with talented young house music producers who are barely old enough to drink in the clubs they’re spinning in. Luckily, London’s drinking age is a little younger, so the club kids get a chance to …

One of my favorite things about MTV were the videos. They were windows into a band’s sound. An added artistic vision to the music.

Robert Glasper Experiment is a band that is truly turned on. All of us were floored by their performance, which is jazz aimed at a new era of music lovers.
The spirit of improvisation was alive and the arrangement for at least one of the songs was worked out right here during soundcheck.
They reinterpret well known songs with – Sade’s “Cherish the Day” and Nirvana’s …

Matthew Dear has been a KCRW favorite for many years, however this was his first time performing live in our studio. As Jason Bentley said, his music is “highly original” and there is nothing quite like it.
I’ve always heard hints of Joy Division in his track “Earthforms”, which delivers the “sickest bassline of the year” according to Jason, so it was really exciting to …
Upcoming Live Performances on MORNING BECOMES ECLECTIC with host JASON BENTLEY
Monday, October 29, Robert Glasper has made numerous traditional jazz recordings with his trio, but his latest album sees him widening his perspective to create a rich, full sound with deep grooves. We’ll be joined by the Robert Glasper Experiment on Morning Becomes Eclectic at 11:15am.

For the 4th year in a row, KCRW took over the legendary Park Plaza and brought some of our favorite musical friends for an evening that is always beyond words (which is why I post so many pictures!).
One of the last conversations I had, sitting on a bale of hay outside by the food trucks at 2am, was with a woman who said the …
