KCRW Premiere: Julia Stone — By The Horns

Written by

Angus and Julia Stone are now focusing on their solo careers. While the pair seemed like a perfect musical match, creating lush folk music and gaining a dedicated following across the globe, I think they both wanted to stretch their wings as songwriters and singers.

Julia’s second solo record, “By The Horns”, is out next week and we are thrilled to present the premiere of a video for the title track.

As always, Julia’s voice is as unique as it gets and as she sings “I believe in love” as a mantra, it’s a romantic side of her I don’t think we’ve seen yet.

She plays a sold out show at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on June 1, which seems especially fitting given the dark nature of this song.

She floats on a gondola in a mist-shrouded lake in the dead of night and sings the story of a goddess who turns the lover who betrayed her into a goblin of the underworld. She sings of love, betrayal, revenge, sadness – normal emotions, if not for the mythical world of Julia’s creation that they exist in. The video was actually filmed deep in the jungles of Asia and directed by Jessie Hill. Take a look:

Hopefully, she’ll be announcing more tour dates in LA soon!

p.s. I should also mention that Angus has a solo album coming out in July.
