Robert Glasper Experiment: Artist You Should Know

Written by

Robert Glasper has been at the forefront of fusing jazz, soul, hip hop and various other genres into a wonderful mix for some time now since his debut 2003 release “Mood“.

On his “In My Element” release we heard felt his appreciation for hip hop with his tribute to late Jay Dee with J Dillalude, and his love for the past, by covering Herbie Hancock’s Maiden Voyage, which was blended masterfully into Radiohead’s “Everything In It’s Right Place“.

Glasper is that eclectic DJ that blends music together using the keys.

With his current release “Black Radio“, Glasper is joined by the likes of Mos Def, Bilal, Erykah Badu, Lupe Fiasco, King and many others.

It’s a wonderful album that explores so many different moods and tones.

I once opened for Glasper back in 2008 and sat in on the soundcheck was really moved by watching him play the keys and messing around effortlessly.

The very next day I bought a keyboard.  And to this day I sound nothing like Robert Glasper.

I am happy to be on the same bill with Robert Glasper on March 22 at The Exchange as he headlines alongside Quantic, Alice Russell and very special guests Bilal and King. (They also have a date tonight with KCRW DJ Jeremy Sole on the decks)

I am trying to avoid buying another keyboard this time around.
