Diego Garcia was one of the most played artists on KCRW last year and one of our favorite songs from his solo debut was “Separate Lives”.
We’re happy to premiere a video for the track, which was filmed on the rooftop of the Standard Hotel in Downtown LA.
If you don’t have tickets to his sold out show this Saturday at McCabe’s Guitar Shop, check out his excellent live session on Morning Becomes Eclectic.

Top Chef has been one of my favorite TV shows since the very first season. And since I’ve been welcoming Tom Colicchio into my home for so long, there was definitely a part of me that feels like I “know” him. But only in the way you can “know” a TV star.
Through his Guest DJ Project set, I got to know him as a music lover and it showed a whole other side of him. The guy who favors a guitar over a kitchen knife as his tool of choice.
Tom …

Tattooed hand grasping the microphone, Mark Lanegan lets loose on this highlight from his new album “Blues Funeral”, his first solo effort since 2004. It’s a dark, menacing, bluesy excursion led by his unmistakable voice.
The entire set is slightly sinister and full of haunting imagery — not for the faint of heart. Whether you’re a fan from his work with Queens of the Stone Age, Screaming Trees, The Twilight Singers and Soulsavers or his solo albums, this session is one to watch.

A number of years back Brooklyn’s Tanlines came out with a brilliant single for The Fader magazine called “SAW” which immediately caught bloggish attention and had me scrambling throughout the Internets for more of whatever material they had. Soon after, they released an EP titled “Settings” on True Panther. Although they had a similar “tone” as Memory Tapes, Washed Out, and Toro Y Moi, Tanlines‘ sounds were less bedroom DIY and had a more polished, big 80s electronic pop sound, with a slight tropical twist.
With this flurry of activity and really …

Jason threw in a gem during Morning Becomes Eclectic today that I had to share in video form.
It’s Sonic Youth‘s cover of The Carpenters’ track “Superstar” and he nestled it between Beck’s cover of the Velvet Underground‘s “I’ll Be Your Mirror” and The Rolling Stones‘ “She’s a Rainbow“, topping off the set with MGMT’s “Song For Dan Treacy”, which was a highlight of their live session on the station in 2010.
Deejaying truly is an art form — not at most stations but definitely at KCRW –and this was a moment …

Cate Le Bon has been this almost mythical creature to me with an otherworldly voice and songs that evoke the late ‘60s but have their own strange vibe. Strange in a good way.
I’ve learned a few things about her along the way: She’s Welsh (but prefers to sing in English cause Welsh is a “tricky language”). She loves horses. She writes her music in the dark.
All of these elements help you make sense of her sound, but even more so something I learned yesterday – her biggest inspirations were Welsh …

Over the weekend, the KCRW Music Blog took a trip to the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica for a SOLD OUT “Trip to the Moon.”
That is a screening of Georges Meliés‘ completely spectacular 1902 classic film (and first international sci-fi blockbuster actually,) “Le Voyage Dans La Lune.” Between all the Oscar buzz for Hugo and a brand new album by AIR which is inspired by and works as a new score to the film, 2012 is shaping up to be a banner year for Meliés, who is arguably the father …

Upcoming Live Performances on MORNING BECOMES ECLECTIC with host JASON BENTLEY
Monday, February 27, Cate Le Bon writes her songs in the dark. We’ve been fascinated by the quirky Welsh singer and are thrilled to welcome her for a live set on Morning Becomes Eclectic and let her shine at 11:15am.
Fri, March 9, Denmark’s Choir of Young Believers have moved from reverb-drenched orchestral work to theatrical pop compositions on their new record. They’ll preview songs from that CD “Rhine Gold” on Morning Becomes Eclectic in the 11 o’clock hour.

Director Mike Mills got his start in the world of music. He was a skate punk from Santa Barbara whose life was forever altered by punk bands like The Damned and went on to design album covers and promo material for the Beastie Boys, Beck, Sonic Youth, Air and many more. (Air even named the fifth song on their album Talkie Walkie after Mills.)
His autobiographical feature film “Beginners”, which he wrote and directed, has been nominated for all kinds of awards and last night one of the movie’s stars, Christopher …
