Stream the New Thurston Moore Album “Demolished Thoughts”

Weeks ago, Jason Bentley got a sneak preview of the new Thurston Moore album. When I spoke to him on the phone afterwards, he seemed like he was in a slight state of shock. I could tell the album wasn’t what he was expecting – but in a good way.

Produced by Beck, “Demolished Thoughts” is an introspective, acoustic affair. (in fact, a lot of reviewers are bringing up Beck’s “Sea Change” in talking about the overall sound of the album.) KCRW DJ Marion Hodges describes it as “subtle eclecticism at its best” and its clearly more intimate in that it puts a spotlight on Thurston’s voice and lyrics.

Not something you’d expect from someone who took noise to the mainstream as the frontman of Sonic Youth for close to 30 years.

It’s his 4th solo album and was recorded here in LA. You can hear it for yourself now, streaming in its entirety as part of our Album Preview series. And tune in on July 28 when he drops by our studios for a live session!

p.s.: also, check out Thurston’s 2007 live session in our archives. It was Halloween and he even dressed up!
