Caravan Palace is a Parisian band that creates a scintillating melange of gypsy jazz a la Django Reinhardt and electronica. They’ve sold out the Olympia in Paris several times (no small feat) and they stopped by our studios during their first ever tour of the U.S.
Their performance in Downtown LA a few weeks ago as part of Grand Performances was, by all reports, pretty incredible and we’re proud to host their live radio debut in this country! DJ Tom Schnabel will air a performance – including tracks “Dragons” and “Jolie …

As Jason Bentley mentioned in the very beginning of his interview with 20-year-old Laura Marling, her husky voice and virtuosic guitar playing belies her age. The U.K. folk singer was recently nominated for a Mercury Music Prize (a coveted Album of the Year award in Britain) for her new CD “I Speak Because I Can.” It’s her second nomination, which is pretty impressive. Laura commands attention in a way few singer songwriters can. It’s hard for me to describe exactly what makes her so special, but when you hear her …

From KCRW DJ Jeremy Sole:
He folds his bandana, evenly, calmly, like it’s a ritual he has kept for years. He places it on the music stand next to the sheet music of the opening song. Miguel reaches down to pick up his viola while his ensemble — and over 4,000 people in the middle of Downtown LA — await the first note. If they were not devoted fans before that note, they were after.
On Friday, July 23rd 2010, KCRW and Grand Performances hosted the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble. This outdoor, free, …

Everest is a band that certainly excels in a live setting. When they get into a folky rock jam, it’s something serious – and very easy on the ears. When I first saw them at Spaceland, their sound literally enveloped the entire venue and they brought it all with them in the studio yesterday. Check it out a powerful track from this great local band below and hear/watch the entire session here.

Guest Dj Project »
When I started the Guest DJ Project over two years ago, Anthony Bourdain was one of the very first people I asked to come on the show. Like all fans of the chef, author and TV personality, I love him because he is brutally honest and sharp-tongued, and I knew he was a big fan of punk music.
He’s a busy man, so I’m not surprised it took that long, but I’m ecstatic that it happened. He takes swipes at The Doors, points to The Stooges as the start of …

Jason Bentley premiered the new single from Underworld – “Always Loved a Film” – earlier this week on Morning Becomes Eclectic and now we have it for you as a stream!
[Audio clip: view full post to listen]
The duo behind Underworld — Karl Hyde and Rick Smith — are celebrating 30 years together, which is hard to believe. Their album “Barking” marks the first time they’ve collaborated with other producers and techno pros Mark Knight and D. Ramirez add their touch to this track , which Jason describes as “joyful …

There is no greater star in Indian popular music today than Kailash Kher and we’re excited to welcome him to Santa Monica for a performance at the Pier as part of the Twilight Dance Series! KCRW is presenting the show which features his newest incarnation — Kailash Kher’s Kailasa.
After Kailash was introduced to brothers Naresh and Paresh Kamath, fixtures of the Indian rock and jazz scene, the trio formed Kailasa, combining Kailash’s strong traditional folk sensibilities and lyrics that invoke Sufi-mystical dimensions with Naresh and Paresh’s more modern rock, …
