Ever since my friend Wendy Fonarow, also known as the Professor of Indie Rock, introduced me to Foster the People, I have not been able to stop listening to their single “Pumped Up Kicks.” It’s at least a 3-times a day habit, and it was even worse before! Jason gave it a spin this morning during Morning Becomes Eclectic and you can hear it streaming below.  It’s  super catchy and perfect for fans of MGMT ‘s danceable debut.  Enjoy!

UK’s The Guardian featured them as a band of the day today and I hear that they should have a full length out next year. Definitely keep an eye on these locals.

Although the song created and performed by Foster The People is very catchy and has a great beat, it has an extremely racist message connected to it. It is well-known that the majority of kids in urban communities enjoy the fashion of their Pumped Up Kicks, therefore song creates an atmosphere of discrimination for those who choose to indulge in that type of attire. The FCC bans most music that is in reference to violence or depicts any type of bigotry, yet this particular song has been allowed to superceed the rules. This song openly incites malice and discomfort for those who choose to exercise their first ammendment (Freedom of speech and expression).

it's actually about ( If you watch their interviews) a school shooting (not a real one, but a fictional one) where 'Robert' is a psychologically damaged kid who goes shoots people with fashionable clothes, hence pumped up kicks, because he is jealous of them, and all the 'other' kids, he is literally just saying all the other kids, no meaning behind that. He is trying to say that how more and more kids are feeling isolated and alone because of family issues and result in violence and that it should stop, he is really just trying to send a message. I know this from about a million interviews I've seen of them so who better to trust then the original song writer when it comes to the meaning?
