Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, I Build Collapsible Mountains (IBCM) is the solo project of Luke G. Joyce. As former frontman for post-rock band The Gothenburg Address (ex-Arab Strap), Luke carries a strong history of performing to live crowds all around the UK and Europe. As opposed to his former band, however, IBCM is much more subdued and sees Luke returning to his roots as a singer-songwriter. Having released a debut in the UK, A Month of Lost Memories, IBCM has since been the recipient of many praises across the country. The Guardian described Luke’s music as radiating an “assuring warmth” while the Glasgow PodcArt admitted that IBCM “isn’t just another acoustic artist. [IBCM] is like fire
    on a landscape.”

Taking 4 tracks from A Month of Lost Memories and adding a new track, the self-titled debut US EP is set to extend IBCM's sincere songwriting beyond the UK. From the more upbeat opening track "Rails" to the subdued last track "Switch", the EP never fails to capture the listener's attention and as one reviewer exclaimed – "you almost fall in love through listening."

PLEASE give Black Kettle a listen at http://www.blackkettlemusic.com. They've gotten so many great reviews and they're playing at The Viper Room on Sunday, May 15th. Thanks!

  • Check out this Victorville, California band Phantom Other. These tracks wont let you down.

  • Lisa

You've featured this band once as your "top tune," but I can't believe y'all haven't fully embraced their work yet. The concept AND the music are truly impressive:

Plus, the main guy is currently playing keyboards for the Black Keys. Seriously, I love you KCRW, but someone's got to pay attention here. <3

  • I'd like to share my musical novel with you! Its a different concept, in which the musical novel consists of five chapters accompanied by five songs that reflect each chapter. I did the music and a writer in the UK wrote the chapters. You can read and listen to the whole thing at http://www.derekjordanmusic.com/predators.

It would be a pleasure to hear back! You can contact me at derekjordanrock(at)rocketmail(dot)com

    All the best,

  • Please check out and feature this brandnew electronica/ambient release feat. the magical Hang Drum :

is a rhythmic and penetrating infusion of warm beats from a divine source.

The Hang, a unique instrument with an ancient sound and mystical feel, is played by global artist Gaudan. In a hybrid trademark sound that fuses downtempo hip hop & dub beats with cinematic electronic keyboard sounds , enhancing the Hang to develop its amazing and rich overtones. Produced and arranged by Roland Spremberg, international successful record producer and keyboarder from Studio 439 in Hamburg, Germany.

An introverted affair between external sounds and inner emotions of two artists who share a mysterious inner being which never stops
to be amazed to find the beauty and mystery of creation.

Gaudan is playing the Hang as a live, acoustic, solo performer enhancing Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Dagmar Spremberg, founder of Montezuma Yoga. The phenomenon of overtones unite the individual frequencies and create communication and harmony.

  • Hi, my name is Cory Clifford and I have a music project entitled Pinebocks. To describe my music, I'd say it's a combination of Bruce Springsteen, Orange Juice and The Magnetic Fields and it could easily fit into the stylings of NME's C86 compilation. One thing about my music is that I try to have a strong sense of lyrical imagery in my songs. You'll notice a fair amount of double meanings, and idioms. All of my lyrics are posted along with the songs on my bandcamp pages for you to observe. I've released three singles, the most recent is "Love Is…" which I released on Valentine's Day as an anti-Valentine's Day single, one entitled "Flee" with a b-side called "My Unfunny Valentine", and the other called "Parti Pris". I have all of these available for free at pinebocks.bandcamp.com, and I have a player for the a-sides at soundcloud.com/pinebocks. Thanks, I hope you guys like my music; I'll have more coming in the future!
    Cheers! http://www.facebook.com/pinebocks http://www.twitter.com/pinebocks

  • Vlax Records

Hey there! Just wanted to let you know about a Roma Gypsy music project we’ve got going right at the moment, which I figured might be your collective streets!

In the 1960s and 1970s Tito’s Yugoslavia saw a flowering of popular Roma Gypsy music. Reinvigorating their folk traditions with the Indian, Turkish, British and American sounds that poured from their radios, out of this largely forgotten scene came some of the most soulful, psychedelic, and just damned excellent tunes of the era.

It was about more than just the music, too – these songs gave the Roma a platform and a voice, which they have long since lost in a region now consumed by nationalist politics and popular anti-Roma sentiment.

But in the past year, Vlax Records have been on a quest to recover this lost musical golden age. We travelled out to Macedonia, Serbia, and Bosnia to meet the surviving artists and to collect old vinyls from the region’s shadiest flea-markets, and found amazing rarities by old stars like Esma Redzepova and Saban Bajramovic, and dug out forgotten gems like Trajko Ajdarevic Tahir and Neat Gashi.

We love this music, and we want to share it with the world – and after lots of sweat and blood, we’re finally close to making the record a reality. But we need your help! We’re making a last push to get together the money to pay the rights and production costs. We’re also trying to get a surplus so we can pay the surviving musicians (or their families), given that these guys were often screwed by their labels back in the day and were only paid one-off fees for recording.

We’re using Kickstarter to generate the money: it’s also a good platform for letting people learn a little more about the music and the project. If you’re interested in getting involved or supporting us (and also hearing some of these amazing tunes!) check out our video here:

We’ve got some sweet rewards lined up for anyone interested in contributing – every penny counts, but even if do no more than tickle your curiosity and get you to learn a bit more about the music then for us it’ll have been worth it!

    All the best,

Nat and Phil (the Vlax Records team)

    Hi KCRW,

We just released a new album by Cody Melville. It’s
called: Downtown Angels. A listen would be
    fantastic. Thanks.
    Kim Delancey
    duetto disc
    Brooklyn, New York

    Cody Melville is a singer/songwriter.

He began playing and recording at 17 with the Plugs, a steady gigging and well-known punk/pop band. He then followed with several bands
    including Pleasure Circuit, receiving
regional airplay of an independently released record of the same name. Subsequent to these projects he caught
the ear of guitar-great/producer Mick Ronson who produced and co-wrote four
tracks with him. He has cut songs
with Brain Ritchie of the Violent Femmes, hosted a Manhattan Cable television
show called “New Folk Noise” and has
released the albums “Cadillac Crown” and
    “Trade My Lonesome.” He
currently has a “smash-up” project teaming his melodies, lyrics, and voice to
existing Link Wray recordings from 1958 call “54 Year Smash-up” and a brand new album of his own: “Downtown Angels

    Hey KCRW,

Bandleader just released their debut album and are looking for feedback from respected sources. Please take a listen and let me know what you think.

Persistently testing the edges of independent rock, Bandleader’s
passion for rhythmic exploration and melodic story telling sees
not a moment of rest. Each member values the purity of signature
tone, exhibiting a unique voice that blends and traces lines to
find a bigger picture. The song catalog formed around humble,
yet strict principals of simplicity and purpose, while
    challenging their technical abilities.

Bandleader came together as a result of front man Patrick
McCormack’s quest to bring his singer/songwriter material to the
stage. After recruiting three other likeminded musicians, the
band quickly outgrew the notion of playing backup, and instead,
an unpredictably colorful sound took life.

JADEITE is a duo from Copenhagen consisting of Niels Henrik Egsgaard and Kim Vinkel. “Electricity” is the first number on their debut album “Frostbites” which is to be released later this year. The music is based on the experimental scene with inspiration from such bands as Battles, Can and Swans while also having tendencies toward modern indie like Grizzly Bear and alternative rock like Pixies. Besides that it has also been a huge influence on the music that the band members have been raised by wild wolves.

    Hey there!
Check out “Giant”, the first full-length album by “Ron Walker & The Blue Quarter”, a project based in Portugal and UK.

The universe of “Giant” was designed on the summer of 2012, throughout this period, melodies, chords, rhythms that come from an old fender 74 telecaster electric-guitar meet words and that’s the way songs began to exist. “Giant” was recorded in the late December of 2012 over a period of two weeks. The Project gathers some close friends, musicians and also other artists from photography, painting, acting and video production.
Hope you enjoy it and let us know whether you would be interested in reviewing (or anything else). If you would like a download of the full album let me know and I’ll send it along.

    We send this singles tracks:

    Best Regards,
    Ron Walker

We are an alternative rock band out of Center Wellington, Ontario, Canada. Our sound is a blend of modern alternative with older progressive elements. The goal is just to make music to get lost in, and we feel like we’ve really done that with the release of our new record “Navigations”. We are really excited about sharing this album with you, and on your site especially! Please give the single “Navigations”. Thanks so much just for the listen and if you can let us know what you think, being featured on your blog would be fantastic.

    Thanks so much, Morgan

Mail Order Monsters have released our debut self-titled album, which is available now on LP / CD. We perform original music using only the Commodore 64 computer as our sound source. We blend intricate 8-bit compositions with synth laden melodies and pulsing rhythms that appeal to fans of multiple genres. We are reaching out to see if you have any interest in setting up an interview with the band, or doing a review of the album. I’ve included a link to our debut album, our music videos, and the press release below. If you’d like, I can put our vinyl record and / or CD in the mail for you to listen to as well.

You can download the album from this link: https://mailordermonsters.bandcamp.com/yum

    Enter this code: vc9d-bm5l

It’s available in MP3 V0 or MP3 320, FLAC, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, and ALAC.

Here’s what people are saying about the album:

“Other chiptune acts come across as gimmicky or entirely ironic, but the talent vested into the serious synth work here proves just how committed they are to breathing new life into these lost electronic sounds.”

    –Eric Mitts, Recoil Magazine

“Featuring solid compositions, lush tones and masterful post production, MOM’s debut album is a must have for synth lovers everywhere as it’s not only a beautiful album, but a technical masterpiece.”

I humbly want to let you know about what we are doing.

It is about singing, banjo, moog, and mellotron, and it is different.

I call the style Art Plunk.

Songs about homesick astronauts, conversations with a shark, and WW1 flying aces .

So far 2 cd’s independently released. A third about to surface (with string quartet).

Enough yapping, you can listen if you are the curious sort. Thanks !

    Music is my life…
Music chose me, not the other way around.
    Music is my time machine..
    Music only makes me stronger…

I read this earlier today in an article about what music means to us. It got me thinking about everything that drove me to use music as an emotional outlet.
I started a band in 2009 as a tribute to one of my best friends that was shot and killed earlier that year. It made me realize that nothing is ever guaranteed in life. We do what we must with the time we have. I realized that all the anger and confusion that I was having so much trouble expressing with words flowed consistently through each note I strummed on the guitar.
I was determined, possessed some would say. When we started having compilations with the band, I started to have complications with life. Like they say; when it rains, it pours. My mother had gone in for a check up because she was experiencing a discoloration in her skin. The doctors thought it was hepatitus, so they strongly suggested that I got vaccinated.
The next day my mother had been transported to the ICU because she had fallen into a comma.
She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died a month later…
I miss my mother, but she always told me to do what makes me feel good.
A year after my mother passed, I began playing music again while adjusting to the changes. It’s been an uphill battle every step of the way, but there isn’t a finer group of people I’d rather spend each hardship with than my friends.
“Can we set ourselves apart? Is that even our decision to make? Or are we guided by fate?”
This song is called called Stay With Me
