This week, pick up 5 free downloads starting with high energy new post-punk band Genital Panic. We’ll then hear from The Sha La Das, a harmonious family affair. As singer/songwriter Emily King prepares for her visit to the El Rey Theatre in November we’ll get you hyped for that show by sharing the first song from her forthcoming full length. New work from promising UK artist Kyan, and KCRW favorite Tom Misch – who comes to the Hollywood Palladium on Friday – wrap up the week!

Monday, Oct. 15 Genital Panic “Action Pants” (radio edit)

At 50, Tina S. was depressed. She was pissed off at becoming invisible as an aging female musician, at menopause, and at the state of the union. So she turned to what she does best, writing songs that echo her feelings. She found camaraderie by creating the all female band Genital Panic. “Action Pants” is a ripping, raucous anthem.

Tuesday, Oct.16 The Sha La Das “Okay My Love”

The Everly Brothers and The Beach Boys used their familial bonds to craft their signature close knit harmonies. Now The Sha La Das are here to carry on that tradition. Bill Schaldas taught his sons group harmonies on the stoop of their Staten Island home which resulted in the formation of the Sha La Das, and their Daptone Records debut Love in the Wind. From that delightful album, check out “Okay My Love” backed by members of the Dap-Kings and Menahan Street Band. Their music drips with doo-wop, blues, and soul.

Wednesday, Oct.17 Emily King “Remind Me”

Emily King has just unveiled the first track from a full length album which is slated to drop in 2019. Here’s what King says about her song “Remind Me:” “There was a moment where I became lost in my own little world. I felt everyday was the same. I could see myself doing the same things and thinking the same thoughts. I was confused and afraid to try. Then one day something made me change. I left where I was. And all these feelings returned. I felt an excitement in my bones. A joy in my heart. I was reminded.”

Thursday, Oct.18 Kyan “Lonely River”
After his major record deal ended, and his relationship with his long-term girlfriend collapsed – on the same day (!) – UK artist Kyan began to rebuild his life in a new direction. Kyan’s debut album was written in solitude in Airbnb’s throughout LA. This let him tap into his true inspiration on “Lonely River.”

Friday, Oct. 19 Tom Misch “It Runs Through Me” Live on MBE
Tom Misch was voted “Best New Artist” by KCRW’s DJs in 2017. A musical chameleon who hopscotches across genres with ease, his first US radio session on MBE was epic. From that session we share “It Runs Through Me.”
