Music for Your Weekend

I’m going to attribute the vibe of my selections this week to the fact that I’ve finally been able to keep up a semi-regular meditation practice. Every one of these songs is guaranteed to make you feel at least 10 percent better than you currently are, even if you’re currently feeling pretty great. From the eternal glow that is Julia Holter, to the vibe-y disco of Mr. Twin Sister, be prepared for all of the good feelings to flow.

Julia Holter – “I Shall Love 2”

I love Julia Holter. I’ve been a fan of hers for so long that I don’t remember when it started. I do know that her cover of “Hello Stranger” is what kicked my fandom into high gear, and that it remains one of my favorite pieces of music to this day. “I Shall Love 2” is yet another stunning showcase for her ability to create an ethereal masterpiece out of what seems like thin air.

Laura Carbone and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart – “The Flowers Beneath Your Feet”

Goodness, this song is romantic! Even setting aside lyrics like “I long to be the flowers beneath your feet, I long to breathe the very air you need…” just the sheer power of the chord changes and the way Carbone sings that titular line should be enough to make you swoon. Someone, somewhere out there must already be dreaming of dancing to this at their wedding.

Mr. Twin Sister – “Power of Two”

Also worthy of the dance floor is this seriously laid back groove. I could expound upon that fact, but honestly I’m just so ready for you to press play on this one so you can commence with the getting down posthaste.
