Artist You Should Know: Saint Sister – “You Never Call” (James Vincent McMorrow remix) (World Premiere)

Written by

Irish singer/songwriter James Vincent McMorrow may not be the first person you think of when you are making a list of your favorite remixers, but that might change soon. He makes his remixing debut with his take on “You Never Call,” a new song from fellow countrywomen Saint Sister, a duo comprised of Gemma Doherty and Morgan MacIntyre, which we are excited to feature for its World Premiere!

Given his own experiments with using more electronic sounds on his own records, McMorrow felt he was ready to take the plunge, and found Saint Sister’s sound to be a perfect canvas.

McMorrow explains: “I’ve started a lot of remixes for people but I’ve never been able to finish them; I’ve never been able to find a path through someone else’s song that I could hear and turn into something new, they always ended up sounding like just another generic remix…….Guess I was just waiting for the right song.”

Saint Sisters’ melodic voices are partnered with an intriguing backdrop of bubbly beats and a rather insistent synth line that kicks in midway through the track. It’s a bold reinvention for the duo, who made a name for themselves singing over a Celtic harp on their previous EP. Their new, debut full-length clearly demonstrates a willingness to branch out in both traditional and non-traditional ways, inspiring fellow artists such as McMorrow to do likewise, which is, perhaps, the greatest gift a musician can give to another.

Saint Sisters’ debut album, Shape of Silence, will be released on October 5th.
