Music For Your Weekend

Have you recovered from Beychella yet? Yeah, me neither. Well, here a few new releases that will help us get over our collective bee stings.

J.Cole – “Kevin’s Heart”

Many fans were less than thrilled with Cole’s last release, 4 Your Eyez Only. Fans cited being disappointed in what they deemed Cole’s softer approach sonically and with his vocal veracity. Well, after taking a listen to KOD, fans, I’m pleased to tell you…he’s baaaack. KOD is full of hard hitting and soulful production with self-reflective and clever lyrics. Universally recognized as one of the best MCs out there, it is nice to see J. Cole back in top form. Take a look at the video for “Kevin’s Heart” starring the man himself.

Sudan Archives – “Nont for Sale”

Now I must admit this song is a couple of weeks old but this is my first post since Coachella – and I love it – so I wanted to make sure I shared. Speaking of Coachella, she absolutely charmed us with her set out in the desert. Just as she has charmed us at KCRW with her avant-garde compositions over the last couple of years. The self-taught violinist virtuoso has done it again. Check out the video for her latest release, which was inspired by a sign she saw on a trip to Ghana that read, “Nont for Sale”

Cuco – “CR-V”

Cuco is another one of those artist that has both captured our attention and impressed audiences the last two weekends at Coachella. He’s a 19-year-old local kid, hailing from Hawthorne, California. Cuco makes heavy synth-based love ballads about his life and the life of a teenage boy. He sings about desires, insecurities, puppy love…crushes and even Honda CR-V’s 🙂
