The Week Ahead: Today’s Top Tune 2/12 – 2/16/18

We’re very excited to share 5 exceptional songs this week, PLUS most of these artists will be coming to our fair city; including Tune-Yards who makes a couple of stops at the El Rey Theatre on Feb 21 and 22​. The talented Irishman Glen Hansard performs at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in two very diverse shows; first he’s solo and acoustic on March 10, followed by an evening with the LA Philharmonic on March 11. Accomplished songwriter Laura Veirs stops by The Echo in May. UK (and NPR Slingshot) artist Jade Bird will be on the circuit with shows at Pappy & Harriet’s, and lands at Stagecoach Country Music Festival in April. Plus Daptone Records goes to Cuba for their first Spanish language recording with the astounding Orquesta Akokán!

Tuesday, Feb 13 Glen Hansard “Roll On Slow”

​Founding member of The Frames and star of the film Once – Glen Hansard produced his third solo album on his own. He’s a master at creating music that feels complete whether the tracks are solo and acoustic or accompanied by an orchestra. We’re excited to share “Roll On Slow.”

Wednesday, Feb 14 Laura Veirs “Everybody Needs You”

​​Laura Veirs follows her 2016 collaboration with k.d. lang and Neko Case with a solo album. It’s themed around the fragility of precious things, as Veirs unpacks her expansive musical skills. “Everybody Needs You” is our ode to love on this Valentine’s Day.

Thursday, Feb 15 Orquesta Akokán “Mambo Rapidito“​

​When Daptone Records decided to record their first Spanish language album, they went to Cuba where they set up a 16-piece orchestra featuring some of Havana’s finest musicians. Orquesta Akokán evokes the sound of classical big bands like Perez Prado and Tito Puente. “Mambo Rapidito”explodes with passion!

Friday, Feb 16 ​ Jade Bird “Lottery”

In 2017, Jade Bird released her breakout debut EP; while 2018 forecasts a US tour that makes stops at SXSW, Stagecoach, and cities throughout the country. An emerging British talent, Jade Bird anchors songs like “Lottery” in folk-based storytelling.
