Music For Your Holiday Weekend

Written by

I don’t know about you, but it’s truly one of those weeks where I can say, “Thank God It’s Friday”; and with the wild swing of the week from love to tragedy – luckily we have music right? Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the events in Florida earlier this week. Perhaps these songs will serve as refuge from this weekend’s news.

Of course I had to include the soundtrack to arguably the most anticipated film in decades! I myself have never been this excited about seeing a film. I mean, I bought my tickets for tonight’s show, last week! I’ve never done that, haha. The soundtrack features SZA, Khalid, ScHoolboy Q, Anderson .Paak, Vince StaplesThe Weeknd…and, it’s curated by Kendrick Lamar. Need I say more? Enjoy the visual masterpiece that is the video for “All the Stars” with Kendrick Lamar featuring SZA

Marlon WilliamsMake Way for Love

This Kiwi crooner is quite the powerhouse. Williams captured our attention a few years ago with his self-titled debut and he’s back with an excellent sophomore effort. Some of the best albums are birthed out of a broken heart and Make Way for Love is no exception to this rule. It’s eleven songs about love-lost expressed through blues, country, folk, a bit of pop, and a dash of early rock n’ roll. With songs like “Love Is A Terrible Thing” and the desire and jealous filled “Can I Call You?”, there’s no mistaking what this album is all about. It’s well written, performed, produced, mixed, and mastered. Simply put, this record is really, really good. Williams stopped by MBE earlier this week and blew us all away. Check out his live version of “What’s Chasing You.”

Girls Of the Internet – “When U Go”

I know this blog usually features new music, but I just recently discovered this song from last summer. I have to tell you – I have been absolutely obsessed with this track. I mean it. Obsessed! For someone who prides themselves in playing a wider variety of new music from week to week, an artist has created something really special in order for me to enthusiastically play the same track 4 weeks in a row. And that’s exactly what Girls Of the Internet has done with “When U Go”. The lo-fi, deep, yet minimal house, is a rare combination that just happens to be sugar to my ears. You take a listen and tell me if you don’t find yourself getting a sweet ear yourself 😉
