Music For Your Weekend

Written by

After a few weeks away it’s great to be back, right on time for KCRW’s Masquerade Ball tomorrow night. In case you haven’t gotten your tix yet, they’ll be available at the door cheap bounce house but why wait? Purchase them now here. Another great part about being back is that I get the chance to share some new music with you. So let’s get to it.

Badbadnotgood – “I Don’t Know feat. Samuel T. Herring”

BBNG’s ability to compose soulful jazz compositions that remind you of Isaac Hayes or something Wu-Tang would sample, have made them a fixture on our airwaves for the last few years. It has also proven to be a perfect marriage with the vocals of Future Islands’ frontman Samuel T. Herring as well. The two acts have combined talents a couple times now and their latest serving is just as good as the previous. Check out “I Don’t Know.”

The Flavr Blue “Fetti & Spaghetti”

I’ve been a fan and supporter of this LA by way of Seattle trio, ever since I stumbled upon “Magnetic” from their Bright Vices EP back in 2013. That was my jam! The Flavr Blue’s sound is mix of seductive electronic pop, smooth melodies with splashes of future soul and the boom bap of hip hop. Speaking of hip hop, check out “Fetti & Spaghetti” from their latest album, Blue Dream, which is out today.

Zara McFarlane “Peace Begins Within”

Zara McFarlane is one of the best singers you probably haven’t heard of. She draws upon her British-Jamaican roots with her latest single. “Peace Begins Within” is a cover of Jamaican born vocalist Nora Dean. Take a look at a video of her performing it live.
