This week, Today’s Top Tune spotlights five excellent artists, including Beach House who comes to the Hollywood Bowl on September 23. ​Perfume Genius warms up at the El Rey Theater before his spot at FYF Festival over the weekend. ​​ ​Doobie Brother Michael McDonald ​performs songs from his solo album at the OC Fair in Costa Mesa in August. ​ Now, Now resumes its tour in early fall with a handful of shows peppering the country. ​And we share a song by ​Cigarettes After Sex which recorded ​its song in a movie theater stairwell after-hours.

Beach House: Chariot from B Sides and Rarities
B Sides and Rarities ​is a compilation of every Beach House song that does not already exist on any of its six albums. They were orphaned because they didn’t make a cohesive fit on previous albums. “Chariot” is an unreleased song from the Depression Cherry/Thank You Lucky Stars sessions.

Now, Now: SGL
​KC Dalager and Brad Hale started Now, Now when they met as teenagers in a marching band. Their debut album Threads was among NPR’s Top 50 favorite albums of 2012, and we’ve eagerly awaited new material. After three years of touring, as well as producing and writing for others, the Minneapolis-based duo is back with a new single that we love, called “SGL.”

Perfume Genius: Slip Away from No Shape
​We recently ​hosted a fantastic session on MBE with Mike Hadreas, aka Perfume Genius, on the occasion of his fourth album. No Shape was produced by Blake Mills and covers Hadreas’ life as he emerged from addiction and fell in love. “​Slip Away” is a heart pounding rock anthem.

Cigarettes After Sex: Each Time You Fall in Love from its self-title debut
Frontman Greg Gonzalez had a clear vision for Cigarettes After Sex’s debut album. The languid, cinematic “Each Time You Fall in Love” captures the spirit of the album. Consider it the love child of This Mortal Coil and Everything but the Girl.

Michael McDonald: Find It in Your Heart from Wide Open
​Michael McDonald’s surprise performance with Thundercat was considered a high point at this year’s Coachella. Yet it’s been almost a decade since the five-time Grammy winner released an album. A one-time member of Steely Dan and a Doobie Brother, his voice is unmistakable.“Find It in Your Heart” is a stand out song on an album that will be released in September.
