Music For Your Weekend

What are you up to this weekend? Going to the beach? FYF? Or maybe you’re headed to the Annenberg Space for Photography for KCRW’s Sound In Focus this Sat with Paul Oakenfold, Mondo Cozmo & Lo Moon, which is FREE!!! Just RSVP here. No matter what’s on the agenda, here are a few artists to add to this weekend’s soundtrack.

Moses Sumney – “Doomed”

If you’re a fan of KCRW, you are definitely familiar with Moses Sumney. We’ve championed this local artist since he burst onto the scene in 2013. Moses is a phenomenal talent! Angelic voice, exquisite songwriter, great stage presence and is simply striking to look at. He recently announced his long awaited debut full-length, Aromanticism, which is due to drop Sept 22nd. The first single is an ethereal, haunting, Radiohead-esque tune called “Doomed.” Check out the stunning video for it. By the way, if you’re headed to FYF he’s playing on Sunday and is not to be missed.

The Steoples – “Roles”

Gifted & Blessed, better known as GB and Yeofi, better known as, A Race of Angels, are the duo The Steoples. GB is an incredible producer with a wide array of styles. In fact, he coined the term “technoindigenous studies” to classify his work. Which represents his pursuit of fusing the technological with the spiritual and ancestral. A Race of Angels has a gorgeous voice and in some ways is quite similar to Moses Sumney’s. It is soft yet powerful. Both artists individual projects have graced the KCRW airwaves for many years. Now the two have combined to create a sound that brings out the best in both of their talents. They just released the video for “Roles” which is the second single from their forthcoming debut album, Six Rocks,  out Aug 11th on Stones Throw. I think you might enjoy the surprise at the end 🙂

Lafa Taylor & Aabo – “Already Found”

“Already Found” is the latest single from Lafa Taylor & Aabo’s album FEEL (which dropped today). It’s an infectious fun, dance, pop tune with visuals that perfectly compliment the sonic aesthetics. The California based duo of Lafa Taylor & Aabo self directed this video and to call it impressive would be an understatement. It was filmed as one continuous shot, then played in reverse. I FEEL, I know, I know but I just couldn’t help it :), like I’m doing you a disservice by making you read more instead of enjoying the video. So take a look!
