In 2016, Melbourne’s Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever showed up on various musical radars thanks to their wonderful and fun-spirited release, Talk Tight. Loose, driving, melodic and clever – these guys charge through tracks, while carving out graceful and intricate lines. For me, the ‘surfier’ side of Real Estate would be a contemporary point of reference, but turned up after last call.
This month, the quintet wash upon our shores for a run at SXSW, an east coast swing (w/ KCRW faves Tennis) and an anticipated stop at LA’s Echo. The occasion? Their essential spring release (and Sub Pop debut) The French Press EP.
The French Press offers up witty songwriting, direct rhythm sections, shared vocals and guitar licks that’ll take you to the beach and back. Their sound will perfectly suit your spring road trips, backyard bbq’s and the like. The seasonal timing is perfect for this collection of easy drinking tracks and standouts French Press, Julie’s Place, and Fountain of Good Fortune will be solid additions to any go-to playlists. The EP (along with their last) is a good-vibe crowd pleaser and the band is proving – with their growing catalogue – to be sharp and effortless.
Stream The French Press EP in advance of its March 10th release right now on KCRW and be sure to check them out on their SoCal stop, March 26th.
