Twilight Concert Series: Natalia Lafourcade (Santa Monica Pier)

Written by

Summers are always my favorite in LA.

Yes there’s the whole, incredible weather, thing that keeps droves of transplants from all over the world coming here year after year. But more specifically, I love all the free outdoor shows and concert series around town.

Tonight in particular, if you were to choose to head down to the Santa Monica pier… you would be able to catch Natalia Lafourcade headlining their Thursday night Twilight Concert Series… for FREE!

Not to mentioning that the supporting act is Colombian gyspy-jazz masters Monsieur Periné (although I guess I just did), and that the whole event will be hosted by KCRW DJ Raul Campos!

Win. Win. And Win.

In case you’re wondering what Natalia Lafourcade sounds like, here’s a performance of her Grammy award, winning, song “Hasta la Raíz,” shot in 360 VR, when she was on Morning Becomes Eclectic.   Sidenote: discover the KCRW VR app. It’s pretty badass.

She often doesn’t get the proper credit, but those who have been following the trajectory of the musica indie scene, know well, that artists like Carla Morrison and Ximena Sariñana, even with their ravenous fans, would not have that platform were it not for Natalia’s, uncomformist, trailblazing path.

Her album landed at number 2 on my Top 10 Album list in 2015, and after seeing her perform live twice this past year, I can guarantee that Lafourcade‘s current show is the perfect soundtrack for what will be yet another epic Cali Sunset on the water.

Show starts at 7pm.

And if history has taught me anything (i.e., seeing Børns through green mesh over a chain linked fence) you will want to arrive early to get a good spot.
