Kendra Morris – “Avalanche”

Written by

Kendra Morris knows her soul music.  The NYC-based artist has been making some silky smooth solo jams for nearly a decade, most recently with a stellar covers album, Mockingbird, which managed to turn tracks like “Space Oddity” and “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” into epic, soul-infused interpretations worth the effort, with the Pink Floyd cover and others gracing various film & television projects.  She captures the same sort of spirit that artists like Mayer Hawthorne & Alice Russell have, paying homage to their forbearers all while pushing the classic soul sound forward into contemporary shapes.  Morris returns to her own songwriting with a new EP, due out later this year.  In the meantime, we have a first taste with the sexy, mid-tempo track, “Avalanche.”

In Morris’ own words: “‘Avalanche’ is about the way you feel when you’re head over heels into someone. It’s the exact moment of falling in love and the intensity of the way it makes you feel. It’s the fall, it’s the envelopment and its the suffocation. You’re falling fast and steady, and as you fall your speed keeps picking up, and soon every other part of your life gets taken under by your Avalanche.”

Be prepared to fall for Morris’ new EP when it is release in late spring/early summer!
