One of our favorite discoveries over the past couple of years has been the artist known as Kauf, the nom de plume of Los Angeles-based singer & musician Ronald Kaufman. Whether on his own recordings, such as his debut single, “Relocate” (a track that impressed Dan Whitford of Cut Copy enough to release it on his own Cutters Records alongside a stellar remix by Psychemagik) or his various remix work for the likes of Poliça and Public Service Broadcasting, Kauf finds a way to give a soul to his melancholic electronic productions.
Kauf makes his full-length debut later this year with a record to be called Regrowth. Our first taste from it is the album’s closing cut, “Through the Yard,” which once again displays Kauf’s personal touch, with an affecting vocal set to an open-ended, worldbeat-flavored backdrop. Word is there are remixes forthcoming, and other album tracks will be released over the next few months. It all signals that we have a lot to be excited about coming from our own backyard very soon. In the meantime, enjoy “Through the Yard,” available as a “name your price” download.
