Blondes Go Deep on Rein & Persuasion

Written by

A couple of years removed from their Swisher album, Sam Haar and Zach Steinman (aka Blondes) have returned with a pair of releases; Rein and Persuasion EP. A limited cassette release, Rein is a dizzying fifty minute collage of original work that sounds and feels like one of their unforgettable live sets.

Brooklyn’s Blondes have long been a crush of mine. Their ever wavy, ambient techno excursions are glorious fetishistic tributes laid at the feet of E2-E4. Persuasion is a brilliant 3 track EP that culls a number of the tracks on the sprawling Rein cassette. Frankly, cassette feels like the perfect medium on which to experience Blondes as it offers the listener the long form format on which to ride their trip out, uninterrupted and uninterruptible. Clicks, whirrs, throbs, drones and recurring themes pan in and out of the mix, like one of those digital THX movie theatre promos, if it were an hour long and produced by Robert Hood.

This is absolutely the kind of music that makes me feel a certain kind of way.

This is how to lose yourself. You should want to ride.
