Combining Bryan Ferry’s sultry vibrato with Interpol lead singer Paul Bank’s dark, dramatic baritone, Von Wagner commands attention from the get-go.
He’s got a new band called Imaginary People that he is leading these days, who make their full-length debut (Dead Letter Box) this week.
“Agata” is a good example of what one can expect to find on the album: twinkling guitar & keyboard accents swirling about a brooding melody line, with Von Wagner melancholy croon floating above it all.
“Agata” has personal resonance for the band, being written for a friend of the band who passed away.
That said, the song fits the band’s usual M.O., with all the parts working together to create a deliriously captivating mood that, like a really good television melodrama, keeps you unable to turn away.
