Unknown Mortal Orchestra + De Lux at First Fridays!

Written by

Saving the best for last is still the best way to save & tomorrow’s final installment of the Natural History Museums First Fridays series is no exception.

With an incredible lineup featuring some current KCRW favorites, the show is probably going to have its own Diorama made in it’s honor so you definitely want to be there.

Kicking things off will be San Francisco’s Painted Palms. This internet/email collaboration between two cousins were hand-picked to tour with Of Montreal by Kevin Barnes himself so maybe (hint, hint) you should get there in time to see them.

Headlining the show is your favorite New Zealand & U.S. based trip-folk, garage rockers Unknown Mortal Orchestra. They were recently in studio at KCRW (check out the session here) and mixed poppy indie hits with slowed down, acoustic covers of other poppy indie hits. They released an EP with a few of those covers on there but the latest full-length album titled “II is a gem.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra: Swim And Sleep (Like A Shark)

Also in the lineup are current nu disco darlings, De Lux. These guys are too young to have actually danced at a disco club or gone to college with David Byrne but they sure as hell sound like they’ve done both. If you’re heading to the museum single, this is the time to actually, legitimately get out to the dance floor. Plus, they’re signed to local label we love, Innovative Leisure so go out there and support that if nothing else.

De Lux: Make Space

And if that’s not enough, solo artist Tobacco will also be there whose single below has been getting a lot of KCRW love as of late. The Black Moth Super Rainbow front man has a penchant for the eclectic and Wikipedia lists “Intelligent Dance Music” as one of his genres. Intelligent, Dance, Museum, History… It’s like all your wildest nerd dreams come true.

Tobacco: Eruption (Gonna Get My Hair Cut At The End Of The Summer)

And if you’re STILL not convinced this is worth your time/effort/ attention, remember that KCRW DJs Garth Trinidad & Anthony Valadez will be providing all the tunes before and after.

Pre-sale tickets are sold out but there will be limited tickets available at the door so get there early!
