Friday Free For All: De La Soul and Juan MacLean

dela De La Soul

Next month will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of De La Soul’s seminal “3 Feet High And Rising album.

Although 3 Feet is widely considered one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time, it’s been conspicuously absent from most digital music platforms due to the complicated legalities having to do with sample clearances (and there are a ton of samples). The same goes for De La’s 1991 follow up, “De La Soul Is Dead and every other De La album up until 2004’s “The Grind Date”.

In an awesome gesture to their fans, De La is serving up their entire discography for free on their website starting on Valentine’s Day at 11AM EST and going until Saturday the 15th at noon. How cool is that? Head over to www.wearedelasoul.com and get digital gorge on! Hurry!!!

Juan MacLean

The Juan MacLean’s “Feel Like Movin’ was one of my favorite singles of 2013.

It’s one of those songs that I’ll probably still be DJing at parties for the next 10 years. Yesterday

The Juan released his latest single “Get Down (With My Love)”.

Like “Feel Like Movin’”, “Get Down (With My Love)” features the vocal stylings of Nancy Whang (whose voice you may recognize from her guest turn on Classixx’ “All You’re Waiting For“).

Head over to NPR’s Heavy Rotation series and grab abbreviated radio edit of “Get Down (With My Love)” as a free download.

And while you’re there, check out Vampire Weekend’s surprisingly great cover is of the Italian opera classic, “Con te partirò“, selected by KCRW’s own, Anne Litt.
