Three Songs You Should Listen to Right Now: Midlake, Lord Echo, James Blake Remixed

Written by

Midlake – “Provider”

I’ve been hearing about the band Midlake from Denton, TX for years. I’ve always liked their songs but nothing really grabbed me. Yet, I had numerous friends who were obsessed with them. I wondered what was wrong with me. But then, they released “Antiphon”. NOW I’ve joined the fan club.

The band underwent a major makeover recently – frontman Tim Smith left the band last year and they abandoned previously recorded material to start from scratch with guitarist Eric Pulido stepping into the role of lead vocalist. Personally, I love the results.

Lord Echo – “Bohemian Idol”

Lord Echo is an eccentric producer based in New Zealand. He has an album called “Curiosities” — out now on Brooklyn-based boutique label Bastard Jazz –which explores all kinds of sounds. I like the funky soulfulness of “Bohemian Idol”.

James Blake – Limit to Your Love (Alex Dimou remix)

James Blake’s 2013 album “Retrograde” made a lot of KCRW DJ’s top 10 lists and is definitely worth hearing if you haven’t already.

This track is actually from his debut –and is a cover of Feist. So it’s a remix of a cover.

And probably the only version fit for the dancefloor.  Stream below and download it here.

Jason Bentley dropped it during his set opening for Cut Copy in NYC last week, at an event celebrating the launch of his dance show Metropolis on NPR Music. Watch Cut Copy here and check out the latest episode of Metropolis!
