Releasing Drone Logic: An interview with DJ/Producer Daniel Avery

Written by

Earlier this week, on the UK release date of his fantastic debut album “Drone Logic, I had a chat with spectacular new talent Daniel Avery. (see streaming link below)

Although he’d been releasing music for a few years under the moniker Stopmakingme and collaborated on a number of releases with DJ Justin Robertson (Deadstock 33s,) Avery took the plunge about a year and a half ago and started releasing work under his own name.

Within a year’s time, he has remixed Primal Scream, Django Django, Death From Above 1979, Jokers of the Scene and The Horrors, released 5 EPs on 4 labels and a banging Fabriclive mix. All the while, touring incessantly worldwide.

In a spectacularly wishful turn of events (and a testament to the work,) his greatest musical inspirations, DJ/Producers Erol Alkan and Andrew Weatherall have also become Avery’s biggest mentors and supporters.

This last winter, Avery holed up in a studio/shipping container on the Thames and produced the record. He then went on a short tour (one stop was LA’s A Club Called Rhonda, which he absolutely destroyed*) and went back to London to put the finishing touches on the record.

Finally, after months of anticipation, the full length is here and is garnering rave reviews and totally legit comparisons to The Chemical Brothers and Underworld.

He’s currently a resident at the legendary Fabric nightclub in London and has a great monthly show on Rinse FM.
