Four Songs You Should Listen to Right Now

Written by

 Jonny Pierce – “Home”

The Drums’ frontman Jonny Pierce contributes a solo track to the latest compilation from Parisian label Kitsuné. It’s their 15th edition and I always find a few gems.

This simple sunny tune is a standout.

BONUS:  One of the reasons these comps are great are because they are all over the place, genre-wise. This is another one of my faves, with a completely different sound.

Denitia And Sene – “Casanova”

XNY – “Ride On”

I was listening to Garth Trinidad’s show a few weeks ago and he dropped this track from Brooklyn duo XNY.

Pam Autuori and Jacob Schreiber were next door neighbors who discovered each other’s musical talents through a shared wall.

Their sound is pretty basic – just guitar, vocals and drums – but it grabbed me the first time I heard it. You can grab it yourself as a free download here.

Cults – “High Road”

High Road” is the second single from NY pop duo Cults’ new album “Static”, out on October 15.

I love how the excitement builds in this song – first the groovy bass line, then the keys, some psychedelic guitar licks.

Layer after layer of wonderfulness adds up in the first :45 seconds until Madeline Follin’s vocals kick in.

Kinda retro, very good.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra – “Swing Lo Magellan”

Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s forthcoming EP, the “Blue Record’, has acoustic versions of a few  tracks from their excellent album “II”, as well as an excellent cover of the Dirty Projectors’Swing Lo Magellan”.

The Portland band played an excellent set on MBE last week that is now up in the archives and the EP is out on October 29.
