Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It” Covered by AlunaGeorge

U.K. Pop/R&B outfit AlunaGeorge joined Morning Becomes Eclectic recently in the middle of their debut tour across the pond.

Selling out shows in New York and Los Angeles, the pair certainly had the right amount of simmer in their debut album which stemmed from a chance online meeting when producer George Reid remixed a track that featured Aluna Francis’ vocals back in 2009.

When collaborations like these take shape, it’s the live performance that becomes the tricky part and fleshing out a full show with a full band takes some doing. One thing they kept true from the album to the stage was their firm grip on mid-90’s R&B nostalgia.

During the course of the interview, AlunaGeorge rattled off several key influences in their music, noting that while Montell Jordan wasn’t exactly one of them, his party anthem jam certainly had an impact.

Aluna’s bold yet light as a feather voice dances delicately over the base line while George tweaks and loops the iconic refrain.  It’s a fun a song that is totally fine living in the past but the kids from London do a great job of paying homage to the sound.

Whether you’re an O.G. mac or a wannabe player… you’ll nod your head to this. And you probably know all the lyrics too.
