This week Rhythm Planet again features some of my favorite new albums. Alex Cuba, a Cuban-born now residing in Toronto starts the show off with a bubbly song followed by Ilhame Paris’ cover of Bob Marley’s “Waiting In Vain”. KCRW favorite Michael Franti has a new album out, a celebration of love songs, and we follow that with one of my favorite artists, Cameroun-born singer and bassist Richard Bona. Rhye has a smooth, cool new song, “Major Minor Love”, Swedish artist Anna Von Hausswolf sings and plays the pipe organ, then some Malian blues from Tamikrest and a glimpse of Rokia Traore‘s forthcoming album on Nonesuch Records. Vibes master Warren Wolf and Kenny Garrett provide the jazz grooves, and we wrap things up with some tropical latin classics from Puerto Rican singer Chivirico Davila, Cuban flutist Don Gonzal0 Fernandez, then classic Congolese rumba from the Brazzaville-based artist Papa Noel (Santa Claus in English).
