Combining the boy/girl tension of current acts like The xx and Gotye/Kimbra and flipping the forlorn vibe into a playfully bedroom-eyed wink and a smile, it is a joyously nostalgic throwback to a Grease-ish vibe I never knew I missed.
Infusing Keep on Truckin’ 70s AM Goldisms with handclap anthem 80s vibes like The Cure’s “Close To Me“…this is that song that kids will sing and dance together to in a muggy sweaty daze in late August just before kissing on the dancefloor.
To top it off…The Preatures tapped LA’ s brilliant Classixx for a funky, boogie inflected rework that gives it a Halls & Oates-ish pace while adding a couple of daytime disco Acid lines. It’s a sharp look that will have you checking the floor for multi-colored Saturday Night Fever lights.
Altogether, this single is a serious pop powerhouse. Attention should be paid.
