Song of the Week: Hot 8 Brass Band Covers Ghost Town

Hot 8 Brass Band, so much so she even forgot about how much she wanted to blow bubbles out on my porch.

DJ Anne Litt and I were gushing over their new record , “The Life And Times Of…”  (out Nov 12) and she told me how KCRW General Manager Jennifer Ferro called the station when she played their version of The Specials’ “Ghost Town” to find out who it was.

Needless to say, their first LP since 2007’s highly acclaimed “Rock With The Hot 8” has a lot of fans.

I love New Orleans brass bands in general and Hot 8 in particular. They formed in 1995 and are consistently great. They’re currently signed to one of my favorite labels, Tru Thoughts, an indie based in the UK with near impeccable taste in music that moves you with world rhythms, from Quantic to Aussie soul band The Bamboos.

Also, as a special treat for KCRW Music Blog readers, they are now offering the track “Fine Tuner” as a free download on their Soundcloud page.

Hopefully we’ll see them here in LA sometime soon!
