When we created our digital submission system MALCOLM earlier this year, we knew that it would be a great way for people to share their music with the KCRW’s music department. What we didn’t quite know is how popular it would prove to be! To date, over 3,200 tracks have been submitted to us.
Slowly but surely, we’ve been making our way though and some songs you may have heard on air already. We’ve got plenty of listening to go, but some tracks really caught my attention so I wanted to showcase them with a series of podcasts. The latest is ready for your listening pleasure!
Featured in MALCOLM: The Podcast — Episode 2 are two electronic pop bands from Tennessee, of all places: Fast Planet from Memphis, and Future Unlimited from Nashville. Closer to our home in Southern California are two local indie rock bands, Echo Park quintet Young Hunting and Torches. The latter is working on new material right now, but we feature a standout track from their debut full length.
And wrapping up the line-up is a funky new solo project from Neal Evans of the band Soulive (who goes by the name of just NEAL.)
As we move into the new year, we are anxious to hear what’s bubbling under the surface of the music scene. So send us your music – check out Malcolm.KCRW.com for information about how to submit. Perhaps you’ll get your shot on the KCRW airwaves or even on a future edition of the MALCOLM Podcast!
If you missed it, check out Episode 1 here.
